Vandals, presumably Wednesday night, damaged seven streets signs and other store front names at the Safety Town facility next to Rushwood Elementary. Ironically, a flag raising ceremony had occurred earlier in the day featuring a flag given to the Nordonia Hills Rotary, and Safety Town by Congressman David Joyce. The damage to the Safety Town facility, evidently occurred later that evening . When contacted by NordoniaHills.News, Rotary member and Macedonia Councilperson Sylvia Hannaken stated that at least seven street signs that were erected to honor donors to the facility, and other signage was damaged. A report and call card were generated with the Sagamore Hills Police Wednesday night when Patty Robertson and Kim Griner were made aware of the damage about 9:00 pm. Hannaken stated that possibly security cameras and stepped up security in the future might deter such acts of vandalism. Safety Town will commence Monday July 17th – Friday July 21th. Last year on May 25th, the safety town was dedicated with a ribbon cutting ceremony (see article, pictures and video here).
We also received a letter to the editor about the vandalism from Kim Griner. You can read it here.
