Cleveland Browns Forced to Release DT Perrion Winfrey

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey seems to find himself in trouble often. Winfrey, age 22 and in what will be his second year if he even plays, was released by the Browns on Wednesday morning.

The tackle was involved in an incident at a hotel with a woman where he smacked her. The scariest part was it appeared Winfrey had a gun tucked in his waistband. Another altercation involved assaulting a different woman back in April.

Winfrey was a fourth-round draft selection out of Oklahoma last year. He played in 13 contests as a rookie, making 22 tackles. He was suspended for the Browns’ second game of the season for undisclosed disciplinary reasons.

No, the Browns didn’t select this player with the number one overall pick or anything of that nature. However, it’s still a disappointment when any type of draft pick doesn’t work out for the team. It’ll be very interesting to see if any other franchise takes a gamble and sign the DT. Additionally, if the NFL gives an even more severe punishment.

Physical assault is bad in it itself, but when it’s a professional athlete committing these acts, it sets a horrific example for specifically those that are younger and look up to these players.

No one should ever hit a woman or anyone for that matter.

Who will replace Winfrey?

Well, there’s Jordan Elliot, Dalvin Tomlinson, Maurice Hurst and Siaki Ika that play the defensive tackle position in Cleveland. Now, there’s always a chance some of these names get cut during training camp and whatnot.

The Browns have a lot of potential for this season and this move, while it’s not the end of the world, certainly doesn’t help the team as we creep closer and closer to football time.

On a different note, let’s hope Perrion is able to get his life in order just in general so he doesn’t end up in a very bad place in the future.
