Fatality on Interstate 77

On February 27 at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Summit County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls in regards to a 2 vehicle crash on Interstate 77 in the city of Green. The Sheriff’s Office and Green Fire Department responded to I77 at the Massillon Road exit. It was determined that a 2005 Buick LeSabre driving on Massillon Road attempted to get on I77 by turning onto the exit ramp and subsequently traveling north in the southbound lanes. The LeSabre was immediately involved in a head-on collision with a 2019 semi-trailer. The driver of the LeSabre was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been confirmed. The driver of the semi did not receive any injuries in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and it is still unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Interstate 77 south was closed for several hours.
