From the Longwood Manor Historical Society

Greetings Members and Supporters;

At our monthly LMHS meeting Dave Fike announced Jackson Heating will install the furnace next week.

I had a meeting with the Mayor this week, He has arranged with the Company who is working on the roads to add parking spaces at the Manor, There will be handicap spaces that will allow wheelchairs to enter at the back entrance, There already is a ramp inside, so there will be handicap accessibility to the first floor,
The City is also going install a Rampart security system in the house.

These 2 things are requirements to reopen the house, so we are moving in that direction. He didn’t have dates when these things would be done when I talked with him.

He said the City is going to do the landscaping, including the section we were planning to pay for to have done.

He has also noticed the deteriorating condition of the french doors in the dining room, and said he is going to have Amish carpenters repair the mullings
I mentioned we had Amish carpenters build 3 new casement windows 2 years for the front of the house second floor.

The Mayor mentioned to me he has supported the Manor since he was a
councilman in the 1980’s, and opposed the plans of some to demolish the house,
So he has been on our side for quite a while, and if would be nice for members to send him a note to thank him for that or speak at Council

There will be a work session this Saturday starting at 10:30, You must have signed a waiver and be on the City’s list to work tomorrow, If you plan to help us and need the forms, let me know.
