From the Macedonia Police Department: SCAMS

Just a quick reminder we are still getting calls about various scams. Foreign lottery scams and IRS scams seem to be the most popular currently but they do change.

The other day I received a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS requiring me to pay up or I would have my property seized and be thrown in jail. I hung up. Unfortunately an elderly family member got the same call and believed it. Even though the family member has had a family friend do her taxes for over 40 years she believe the caller claiming to be from the IRS. According to the caller her tax man ran off with her money and never paid the IRS for the past several years. It took everything we had to convince her it was a scam.

Most victims of these scams seem to be the elderly. Take this opportunity to talk to the elderly people in your life and let them know these things are happening and they should call you before ever sending money to somebody.
