From the Summit County Sheriff’s Office: Road Rage Follow-up

On November 3, 2018, at approximately 11:12 p.m., a Summit County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a vehicle off the side of the roadway on Interstate 77 at Mile Post 115.8.  The Deputy arrived at the vehicle and encountered two individuals involved in an active gunfight at a second vehicle. Two male subjects immediately surrendered to deputies. One male was wounded with a single gunshot wound and was transported to Akron City Hospital for treatment. The injured male was admitted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The two vehicles, had been involved in a road rage incident while traveling southbound on I-77.  The two vehicles encountered each other on the interstate near South Arlington Road and Massillon Road. The vehicles eventually collided and came to rest on the side of the interstate near Mile Post 115.8. One of the drivers exited their vehicle and confronted the second vehicle driver while he was still in his vehicle with his wife and two young children.  The confrontation between the two ended with both parties discharging firearms. The occupants of the second vehicle were not injured.

On November 28, 2018, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested Orlando Negron Espinosa in reference to the shooting incident on Interstate 77 that occurred on November 3. The investigation revealed that Espinosa exited his vehicle to confront the other driver. It was determined that the altercation was a result of Esponosa’s actions.

Orlando Negron Espinosa, age 43, of Massillon was arrested charged with Felonious Assault (F-2). He was subsequently booked into the Summit County Jail. Further charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
