Nordonia high school students, Home Depot Employees and other community members assisted the Macedonia Service Department in cleaning up Macedonia. All met at Longwood Manor Park 9:00 am and enjoyed coffee and donuts. Once everyone arrived, they broke into groups that tackled different areas. Some went off to the paths at Longwood Park, some cleaned up around the lake there and some when with Macedonia Service Department to clean up the streets.

One crew, which consisted of two high school students (Dylan Sopata and Deacon Walker) assisted Ron Firem in cleaning up the area around the on-ramp to 217 just off South Freeway Drive. The students figured they would be picking up hamburger wrappers or cans. But were surprised when they found a pile of tires, a sock, a piece of women’s undergarment and a used diaper.

After the clean up, Macedonia City Councilman, Kevin Bilkie read a proclamation from Mayor Joseph Migliorini declaring April 23 Arbor Day in the City of Macedonia. Kevin’s Daughter Kayley helped finish planting a tree near the pavilions in Longwood Manor Park in honor of this day. Volnuteers were treated to Subway sandwiches for their effort and were encouraged to take a seedling home to plant.

At the end of the day, quite a bit of trash was collected and Macedonia is a little cleaner and a little greener.
