Nordonia Football 2019 Season Recap: Making Heavy Strides by DJResch

By Nordonia High School Student DJ Resch

Another excellent year of Knights Football has come to a close with plenty of heart-stopping moments, team spirit, and well-earned victories witnessed throughout the season. The team trained rigorously since summer displaying important characteristics like leadership, discipline, and determination to win.

The Knights ended the season with a victory against North Royalton breaking even with a 50% win-loss. The team landed in 4th place for the Suburban League and 36th place overall in the division despite not qualifying for the playoffs. The Knights made noticeable improvements throughout the season, laying down major upsets against Cuyahoga Falls (42-28) and North Royalton (56-26) alike. The freshman team should not go unnoticed either, as they had some amazing shutdowns on teams like Woodridge (26-0), Bedford (50-6), and North Royalton (36-8).

It wouldn’t quite be a Nordonia football game without support from the prestigious marching band, drumline, cheerleaders hyping up the crowd, and the high energy of the student section supporting their Knights!

This is what Head Coach Jeff Fox had to say about the season:” I am grateful for the hard work and commitment to countless people to make this season possible. Our Mission is to use the great game of football as a platform to influence our young men to become better servant leaders in our community. I am confident our boys learned great life lessons as we battled through the season. I am very proud of the relentless effort put forth by our players and coaches in preparation and every Friday night. We are very grateful for the support of our award-winning marching band, our cheerleaders, parents, faculty, fellow students, and the entire community.”  It was a challenging season for the Knights as they went up against some of the strongest teams in the Division, but it was a valuable experience for those will go on to represent the team next season. I’m confident that Nordonia is going to be a fearsome opponent for all the teams who take up sidelines against the Knights next year.

Bring on the 2020 season! Go, Knights!
