Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize.
For the December project, try to name all of Santa’s reindeer.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 19.

Discover Jazz with Curtis Taylor
Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Curtis Taylor will discuss jazz music, the trumpet, and perform live as part of a jazz duo. Questions and audience participation is encouraged. Thursday, December 20, 7 p.m.

Holiday Closing
The library will be closed Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25, for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be “Reader’s Choice” of a Linda Castillo novel on Wednesday, December 26 at 7 p.m.

Holiday Closing
The library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, December 31 for New Year’s Eve and will be closed Tuesday, January 1, for New Year’s Day.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, January 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m., we’ll get together for some great crafts. On Monday, January 7, make a beautiful ornament.

Let’s Eat!
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 3:30 p.m. we will get together and create something delicious. Tuesday, January 8 – we’re making sausage and cheese dinner.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, January 8, 6-8 p.m.

Paws for Reading
Read a book to Edmund, a certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read one of ours! This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Tuesday, January 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Cookies and Conversation
The second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m., meet to talk about what’s going on your life, school, town or the world. We’ll discuss philosophy, current events or whatever is on the group’s mind. And remember we have cookies! Wednesday January 9 at 3:30 p.m.

After School Club
After School Club is one Wednesday per month, for children in Kindergarten through 4th grade. On Wednesday, January 9 at 4 p.m., make a penguin water bottle craft.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our next discussion is Thursday, January 10, 2 p.m. to discuss Carnegie’s Maid: a Novel by Marie Benedict.

The Magic of the Balalaika
Virtuoso Oleg Kruglyakov performs a fascinating, fun, conversational-style program of live Russian music, performing on balalaika and singing with backing tracks. Thursday, January 10, 7 p.m.

Teens Do Something
This is a great way for students in 5th through 12th grades to volunteer. We will meet one Saturday a month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to do a different type of project. Please contact us for more details. Saturday, January 12.

Science Saturday
On Saturday, January 12, at 2:30 p.m., join us for great hands on STEAM fun! Children, school age and up, bring your moms, dads, and the whole family.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The Guest Cottage by Nancy Thayer on Monday, January 14 at 2 p.m.

Messy Monday
Messy Monday is one Monday a month. Create with clay and then paint your creation on Monday, January 14 at 6 p.m.

Avoiding Big Mistakes When Saving for Retirement
Learn how to avoid big mistakes when saving for retirement – topics covered include inflation, asset allocation, taxation, and healthcare costs. This program will help you identify what you have, what you need, and how to get there for retirement planning. Tuesday, January 15, 6 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
Join our regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, January 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments served. No registration necessary.

5 Questions to Ask Before You Retire
Learn about key challenges facing retirees, picturing your retirement, and building a plan of action. Tuesday, January 22, 6 p.m.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, January 29, 6 p.m.
