Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the February challenge, make your way through the snowflake maze!

Storytimes
Baby Time
Thursdays, 10:15 am, January 14-February 25
For children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver. Our programs feature bounces, songs, and stories.

Toddler Story Time
Thursdays, 11:15 am, January 14-February 25
For children 2-3 years old, with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Short stories, rhymes, and more!

Preschool Story Time
Thursdays, 12:30 pm, January 14-February 25
For children 3-5 years old, not yet in Kindergarten. Stories, rhymes, and more!

Bedtime Story Time (for families)

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe returns to Wednesdays in 2016 starting on Wednesday, February 10 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussions
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, February 11 at 2 p.m. We will discuss The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.

2016 Medicare Updates
Do you need accurate, unbiased information about Medicare? Viktoria Jurkovic with the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division will review important 2016 changes regarding Medicare Part D plans and Medicare Advantage Plans, as well as provide an overview of Medicare Part A and Part B benefits on Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents.

After School Club
After School Club is one Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. for children in Kindergarten – 4th grade. On Wednesday, February 17 – Slot car racing! In honor of NASCAR Duel at Dayton on February 18, we will build a track and then race the slot cars.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular games “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, February 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

5th & 6th Grade Book Club
One Monday each month at 6:30 p.m., we will meet to talk about this month’s book over a drink and a snack. Monday, February 22 – The Forbidden Library by Django Wexler

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion title will be “Reader‘s Choice” of a favorite mystery on Wednesday, February 24 at 7 p.m.

Great Lakes Theater Play
We welcome the acclaimed theater troupe back to Nordonia Hills for a sixteenth year as they present a world premiere play written by David Hansen and directed by Lisa Ortenzi: THE SECRET ADVERSARY: A TOMMY & TUPPENCE ADVENTURE, based on the novel by Agatha Christie. Seating is first come-first seated. No registration will be taken. Thursday, February 25, at 7 p.m.

Friends of the Library Book Sale – new public hours!
The Friends of Nordonia Hills Branch Library will hold their Spring Book Sale Friday, March 4, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. AND Saturday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  A $4.00 bag sale begins at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The preview sale for Friends members is Friday, March 4, from 12 Noon to 3 p.m.  Memberships starting at $5.00 may be purchased at the door.  You must be a member to attend.
The library is now accepting donations of gently used hardback and paperback books, video and audio recordings, and board games. No magazines, Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, textbooks, or encyclopedias are accepted.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, March 8, 6-8 p.m.

Teen Café
For students in grade 5 and up. One Wednesday a month at 4 p.m.  Please register for each date. Wednesday, March 9 – Create a springy button bowl to brighten up your room.

Just Keep Rowing: Lessons From the Atlantic by the Youngest Person to Row It Alone
Authors Katie Spotz and Mark Bowles discuss Katie’s story of courage and endurance as the youngest person to ever row the Atlantic Ocean, all in support of providing clean drinking water for all. This program includes a multimedia presentation with Q&A. Registration is suggested. Thursday, March 10, 7 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance
Kim Mozzochi with the Area Agency on Aging conducts this FREE exercise series, geared toward older adults wanting to improve strength, flexibility and muscle tone. The sessions meet twice per week for a 12-week period. Registration is strongly encouraged, as space is limited. This series may be cancelled due to low attendance. Mondays and Tuesdays, March 14 – May 24, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy on Monday, March 14 at 2 p.m.

3rd -4th Grade Book Club
For children in 3rd-4th grades. Once a month at 4 p.m., we will read a different chapter book and then come in and talk about it with others over a drink and a snack. On Monday, March 14, we will read Guinea Dog by Patrick Jennings.

College Students: Positioning Yourself for Employment
During this session Kelly Gadzinski of KG Services, LLC will be going over keys steps that every college student should take throughout their college career to best position themselves for employment upon graduation.  College students at all levels of their college career and/or their parents are encouraged to attend. Tuesday, March 15, 6:30 p.m.

Family Night
Join our crafts program for families of all ages!  Monday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. – Come in and make Monster Jaws.
