Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the January project, try your hand at a winter-time I Spy!

Cookies and Conversation
The second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m., meet to talk about what’s going on your life, school, town or the world. We’ll discuss philosophy, current events or whatever is on the group’s mind. And don’t forget we’ll have cookies! Wednesday, January 11 at 3:30 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, January 11 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Baby Time
Thursdays, January 5-January 19, 10:15 am
For children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver. Our programs feature bounces, songs, and stories.

Toddler Story Time
Thursdays, January 5-January 19, 11:15 am
For children 2-3 years old, with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Short stories, rhymes, and more!

Preschool Story Time
Thursday, January 5-January 19, 12:30 pm
For children 3-5 years old, not yet in Kindergarten. Stories, rhymes, and more!

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussions
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, January 12 at 2 p.m. We will discuss The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessey by Rachel Joyce.

Holiday Closing
The library will be closed Monday, January 16, Martin Luther King Day.

“Books You Might Have Missed 2016”
Sit back with a hot beverage and a treat while we tell you about nearly 60 titles, both fiction and nonfiction (don’t worry – we give you a book list so you can mark the ones that sound interesting). Tuesday, January 17, 7 p.m. Take an intriguing look at the year past, and find some new titles you may love!

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 18.

Wellness Yoga: Yoga Off the Mat
Learn soothing stretches that you can incorporate into your daily life in this gentle yoga series with Diane Bielecki, who graduated from the Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga. No mat is needed – stretches are done standing or in a chair. Please dress in comfortable clothing and arrive 5-10 minutes early so that class may begin on time. This class is limited to twenty participants, and registration is strongly suggested. Wednesdays, January 18, February 1 and 15, 6:30 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular games “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, January 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m. we’ll get together for some great crafts. Monday, January 23 – We are going to make bird feeders to help our feathered friends.

Mini Teen Makerspace
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 6:30 p.m. we will get together and create with a different medium. On Tuesday, January 24, learn some electronics – try your hand connecting squishy circuits.

Mush!: The History of Dogsledding
Join the Siberian Husky Club of Greater Cleveland for a talk on all things sled dog – the history of the Siberian husky breed, their relationship to Cleveland, and Balto, the most famous sled dog in the world. Learn about the Iditarod, local races, mushing equipment and commands, then meet a real Siberian Husky and Q&A with the musher. Tuesday, January 24, 6:30 p.m.

After School Club
For children in K-4th grade. Wednesday, January 25, 4 p.m. – we will play some popcorn games.

Medicare 101
Viktoria Jurkovic with the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division will provide an overview of Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare supplement insurance. Whether you are new or currently on Medicare, attendees can learn more about recent Medicare plan changes and financial assistance programs, which may help pay prescription drug costs and Part B premiums. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents. Wednesday, January 25, 6 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be “Reader’s Choice” of a Ruth Rendell mystery on Wednesday, January 25 at 7 p.m.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, January 31, 6 p.m.

College Financial Planning
Come learn the number one way to get more free money for college, how to get the maximum amount of financial aid, and tips on the ACT, SAT, & AP exams. Find out why the new FAFSA rules will cost you thousands of dollars in financial aid and why you should NEVER own a 529 plan or some other popular college savings plans. This workshop is presented in association with Joel Wymer, Certified College Planner of College Planning Strategies. Tuesday, January 31, 6:30 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, February 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

3rd – 4th Grade Book Club
For children in 3rd-4th grades. Once a month at 4 p.m., we will read a different chapter book and then come in and talk about it with others over a drink and a snack. On Monday, February 6, we will read Samantha’s Winter Party by Valerie Tripp.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford, on Monday, February 13 at 2 p.m.

Messy Mondays
Join us for messy fun! Don’t forget to wear some old clothes, you may get messy. On Monday, February 13, 6 p.m. we will have some fun making crafty winter bird feeders.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, February 14, 6-8 p.m.
