Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the May challenge, read a short paragraph and answer some questions!

DIY Terrariums
Make your own terrarium with our step by step guided instruction, and add some green to your life! Materials provided, but participants may bring their own plants and embellishments if they wish. 16 and over, please. Registration is strongly encouraged, as this program is limited to twenty participants. Wednesday, May 4, 6:30 p.m.

Story Times
Baby Time
Thursday, 10:15 am, May 5,
For children 24 months and under with a parent or caregiver. Our programs feature bounces, songs, and stories.

Toddler Story Time
Thursday, 11:15 am, May 5
For children 2-3 years old, with two-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Short stories, rhymes, and more!

Preschool Story Time
Thursday, 12:30 pm, May 5
For children 3-5 years old, not yet in Kindergarten. Stories, rhymes, and more!

Meet the Author: Marty Gitlin
Marty Gitlin discusses writing and some of his more than 50 published titles, including THE GREATEST SITCOMS OF ALL TIME. Mr. Gitlin’s work includes sports, food, history, and pop culture. Refreshments served. Registration suggested. Thursday, May 5, 7 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The Apple Orchard by Susan Wiggs on Monday, May 9 at 2 p.m.

3rd – 4th Grade Book Club
For children in 3rd-4th grades. Once a month at 4 p.m., we will read a different chapter book and then come in and talk about it with others over a drink and a snack. On Monday, May 9, we will read Saving Sky by Diane Stanley.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, May 10, 6-8 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe returns to Wednesdays in 2016 starting on Wednesday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussions
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, May 12 at 2 p.m. We will discuss The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.

Cuyahoga’s Child: Growing Up in the Valley of the Crooked River
Author Jeffrey Knowles takes you on a historical and heartwarming, journey through the forests, canals, classrooms, factories, homes, and ball fields of his home in Ohio’s Cuyahoga Valley. Refreshments will be served. Registration suggested. Thursday, May 12, 7 p.m.

Pinterest Workshop: Upcycled Book Birdhouses
Make your own beautiful upcycled book birdhouses. Please register, as this class is limited to fifteen participants. Monday, May 16, 2 p.m.

Family Night
Join our crafts program for families of all ages! Monday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. – Design a CD Wind Spinner to catch the spring sunshine in your window.

After School Club
After School Club is one Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. for children in Kindergarten – 4th grade. On Wednesday, May 18, try your hand at rock art.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 18.

Wellness Yoga: Yoga off the Mat
Learn soothing stretches that you can incorporate into your daily life in this gentle yoga series with Diane Bielecki, who studied at the Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga. No mat is needed – stretches are done standing or in a chair. Attend one class or the whole series, and please dress in comfortable clothing. This class is limited to twenty participants, and registration is strongly suggested. Wednesdays, May 18, 25, and June 1, 6:30 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular games “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

5th & 6th Grade Book Club
We will meet to talk about this month’s book with a drink and a snack. Monday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. – Glass Sentence, by S. E. Grove.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion title will be Cinnamon Roll Murder by Joanne Fluke on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m.

Low Back Safety for the Summer Months
This discussion and demonstration will include safe gardening and raking tactics and the importance of breaks, presented by Sharon Nichols, PTA and sponsored by Elmcroft of Sagamore Hills Assisted Living in collaboration with Therapy in Motion Rehab. Wednesday, June 1, 12 p.m.

Teen Volunteer Classes
Students going into 5th grade or up may volunteer to help with the Mind, Body, & Sole summer program. You must attend one of the classes to volunteer! Please bring your calendars to the meeting so you know when you are available to work. It is recommended for parents to come with their child. No registration is needed.

Lunch Bunch
Students going into Kindergarten through fourth grades are invited to join Miss Sue for a story and a craft. Bring your lunch and your listening ears. Dessert and beverages will be provided! Please register. Wednesdays, June 8-June 29, 12:30-2 p.m.

Teen Cafe
For students in grade 5 and up. Thursdays at 2 p.m. between June 9 and July 30.
June 9 – We are going to make butterfly lantern.
June 16 – Join Miss Sue and create a gift for Father’s Day.
June 23 – 4th Annual Paper Airplane Races! Come race your designs against other worthy opponents.
June 30 – Jeff Nicholas is back to draw cartoons with us.
