Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize.
For the September project, come up with your best ‘Pizza, Pizza Mad Lib!’

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 19.

The Psychology of Collecting
Collector and culture aficionado Laura Loew discusses collecting, curating, and the fine line between collecting and hoarding! Thursday, September 20 at 7 p.m. Refreshments are served. Registration is suggested.

Build a Better World
Join the Akron Zoo and some live animals in learning about why animals are becoming endangered, both worldwide and in our backyards. Also discover some ways that we can help the animals and the ecosystems they live in. Registration is suggested. Saturday, September 22, 2 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m., we’ll get together for some great crafts. On September 24 – We’re going to collect beautiful fall leaves and make Sun Catchers.

Let’s Eat!
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 3:30 p.m. we will get together and create something delicious. September 25 – Make pizzas and see whose is the best.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, September 25, 6 p.m.

Medicare 101
Are you going to be eligible for Medicare this year? Then this FREE Medicare program is for you! Sarah Florimonte, a Community Liaison for the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division, will cover Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare supplement insurance. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents. Wednesday, September 26, 6 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be The Rope by Nevada Barr on Wednesday, September 26 at 7 p.m.

12th Annual Murder Mystery: ”Return to the Masquerade”
The autumn costume party is in full swing, but one of the guests is attending his or her last party, and everyone is a suspect! Saturday, September 29, 6 p.m. Prizes for the successful sleuth, and food for all. For all patrons 16 & over. Ticket entry required. Tickets are free – two per person only. Register in person only.

Fill the Bus Food Drive
In partnership with The Emergency Assistance Center of Northfield, the Library is a drop off site for the Fill the Bus food drive campaign. Canned and boxed foods (non-expired) are requested. Drop off donations in the Library lobby. October 1 – October 26.

The Spirits Speak
Jim Kleefeld presents a demonstration and explanation of deception in spiritualism from the early 1900s. Hear stories of spirit mediums who charged people exorbitant fees to talk to the dead, all the while using trickery and secret assistants. View a collection of antique and unusual artifacts demonstrating how turn-of-the-century mediums tried to initiate contact with spirits. Thursday, October 4, 7 p.m. Refreshments are served. Registration is suggested.

Nordonia Hills Trivia Night
Test your knowledge in our first-ever trivia night! Teams of up to six admitted. Smaller groups are welcome, and may be combined into larger teams. Refreshments will be served and prizes awarded for the winning teams! Registration is strongly suggested, as only ten teams of six will be admitted. Friday, October 5, 7-9 p.m.

Teens Do Something
This is a great way for students in 5th through 12th grades to volunteer. We will meet one Saturday a month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to do a different type of project. Please contact us for more details. Saturday, October 6.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck on Monday, October 8 at 2 p.m.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, October 9, 6-8 p.m.

Paws for Reading
Read a book to Edmund, a certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read one of ours! This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Tuesday, Oct 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Cookies and Conversation
The second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m., meet to talk about what’s going on your life, school, town or the world. We’ll discuss philosophy, current events or whatever is on the group’s mind. And remember we have cookies! October 10 at 3:30 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our next discussion is Thursday, October 11 at 2 p.m. We will discuss Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, by Jennifer Chiaverini.

Medicare Seminar
Are you turning 65 or planning to retire?  Do you have questions about Medicare?  Have questions about changing your plan during Annual Enrollment?  Sharon Honroth discusses Medicare supplements, Advantage plans, and Part D prescription plans. Thursday, October 11, 6:30 p.m. Registration is suggested.

ACT Practice Test
Join us Saturday, October 13 at 10 a.m. for a free ACT practice test. Sylvan Learning Center is offering to prepare you for the real test. They are giving one month of free tutoring to anyone who participates. Please bring your own calculator, and be sure to register by October 10, as spaces are limited.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, October 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monsters Are Universal: Silver Screams in Hollywood’s Golden Age
Sara Showman and Mark Dawidziak use lighthearted sketches, props and costume pieces to explore Hollywood’s “golden age” of horror, with a special emphasis on the Universal Studios films starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, as well as the genre’s literary origins, from Frankenstein and Dracula to The Invisible Man and The Phantom of the Opera. A monstrous good time that shows how famous film fiends became beloved characters. A book signing featuring many of Dawidziak’s horror-centric titles will follow. Thursday, October 18 at 7 p.m. Refreshments are served. Registration is suggested.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
Join our regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, October 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments served. No registration necessary.

Messy Monday
Messy Monday is one Monday a month. We will paint pumpkins on Monday, October 22 at 6 p.m.

After School Club
After School Club is one Wednesday per month, for children in Kindergarten through 4th grade. On Wednesday, October 24 at 4 p.m., make a spider web craft.

College Funding Workshop
The cost of a college education has skyrocketed and, as a result, many parents feel completely overwhelmed, with little to no guidance on how they can minimize the cost of college. College Funding Educators of America was formed to provide comprehensive education to parents so that they can maximize financial aid and understand various college funding strategies that will help reduce their family’s out-of-pocket expenses. Wednesday, October 24, 6 p.m.
