Monthly Challenges
For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize. For the September project, color-by-number an autumn picture!

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills
Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 21.

Travel Talk: Greenland & Denmark
Dr. Anne Schoeffler discusses her 2016 summer trip to Greenland and Denmark, with a special focus on her research work on climate science. This includes photos of the expedition. Registration is suggested. Wednesday, September 21, 7 p.m.

Titanic: Tragedy of Errors
An entertaining and educational presentation designed to answer five questions regarding the Titanic tragedy. There are also six interactive mysteries (with special effects) for the audience to solve. Registration is suggested. Refreshments served. Thursday, September 22, 7 p.m.

Collectible Card Games Day
Meet and join in with players of various collectibles card games including Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: The Gathering, and more. All ages welcome. No registration necessary. Saturday, September 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Family Night
Join our program for families of all ages! One Monday a month at 6:30 p.m. we’ll get together for some great crafts. Monday, September 26 – Yarn art.

Adult Coloring Night
Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesdays, September 27, October 25, November 29, 6 p.m.

Medicare 101
Viktoria Jurkovic with the Ohio Department of Insurance’s OSHIIP division will provide an overview of Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare supplement insurance. Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program representatives are trained by the state, and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents. Registration is suggested. Wednesday, September 28, 6 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussions
The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion will be The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, by Stieg Larsson, on Wednesday, September 28 at 7 p.m.

10th Annual Murder Mystery: “The Oracle’s Misfortune”
Saturday, October 1, 6 p.m. Madame Vestra has been murdered at the old haunted Sagamore Mansion, and the guilty ghoul is on the loose! Prizes for the successful sleuth, and food for all. For all patrons 16 & over. Ticket entry required. Tickets are free – two per person only. Register in person.

DIY Tie-Dye Shirt
Try this new spin on classic tie-dye! With permanent markers and rubbing alcohol, create your own no-mess tie-dye shirt. All supplies provided. This class is limited to twenty participants, so registration is suggested. Tuesday, October 4, 6 p.m.

Zentangle Workshop
Kim Winebrenner teaches the art of zentangle, an easy-to-learn, relaxing method of creating beautiful images from structured patterns. Kit included. For beginners and experienced tanglers. Registration is suggested. Thursday, October 6, 7 p.m.

Crafters’ Corner
Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, October 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads
Join us the second Monday of each month for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss Blunt Impact by Lisa Black on Monday, October 10 at 2 p.m.

Stitch Clique
Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, October 11, 6-8 p.m.

Socrates Café
Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe returns to Wednesdays in 2016 starting on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussions
Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our afternoon book discussion group meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Thursday, October 13 at 2 p.m. We will discuss Inside the O’Briens by Lisa Genova.

Folk Music Concert: Andy & Judy
Listen to the folk music of this New England duo on guitars, mandolin and banjo. Original music inspired by the experiences and wisdom gained through everyday living. Music ranges from older traditional songs through the folk music stalwarts such as Prine, Dylan, Ian and Sylvia, Peter, Paul, & Mary, and others. A folk music concert where there are opportunities for audience participation. Refreshments will be served. Registration is suggested. Thursday, October 13, 7 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time
The library hosts a regular games “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, October 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

3rd – 4th Grade Book Club
For children in 3rd-4th grades. Once a month at 4 p.m., we will read a different chapter book and then come in and talk about it with others over a drink and a snack. On Monday, October 17, we will read Goosebumps Mosted Wanted: The Haunter by R.L. Stine.

Mini Teen Makerspace
For students in grade 5 and up. One Tuesday a month at 6:30 p.m. we will get together and create with a different medium. On Tuesday, October 18, create your own jewelry.

How to Navigate the Medicare Maze
Turning 65 can be an exciting – and confusing – time in your life, especially when it comes to Medicare and the critical choices you need to make. Receiving Medicare benefits but don’t quite understand the system? This presentation guides you through the maze, answers your questions, and explains options regarding Medicare benefits. Wednesday, October 19, 6 p.m.

Dreams Fulfilled: Creating & Achieving Your Bucket List
You’ve heard the term “Bucket List”; come learn how to create your own list and pursue your lifetime dreams one at a time. Presented by Lynn Hermensky of Hospice of the Western Reserve. Refreshments will be served. Registration is suggested. Thursday, October 20 at 7 p.m.

Winston Churchill: A Dramatic Portrayal
Scholar-actor Dr. Kevin Radaker returns with his new dramatic portrayal of Winston Churchill. This 90-minute program emphasizes Churchill’s inspirational eloquence and determined pugnacity in leading Britain during World War II, and his tireless efforts to reduce tensions during the first decade of the Cold War. Refreshments will be served. Registration is suggested. Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m.
