Monthly Challenges

For Grades K-5 – Monthly challenges will be located in children’s area. Complete the challenge for a chance to win a small prize.

For September, spot the difference in the pirate ships.

Crafters’ Corner

Join your fellow craft enthusiasts for daylong fun. Bring your own supplies. All crafts welcome. Lots of table space to spread out. Refreshments served. Come for an hour or the entire day. Saturday, September 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday Casual Reads

Join us the second Monday of each month for book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light reading lovers. We will discuss The Art of Crash Landing by Melissa DeCarlo on Monday, September 9 at 2 p.m.

Stitch Clique

Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, September 10, 6-8 p.m.

Paws for Reading

Read a book to Edmund, a certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read one of ours! This is a great way for children to practice their literacy skills and gain more confidence in reading aloud. Children of all ages are welcome. Tuesday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Essential Oils 101

Come learn the basics of introducing essential oils into your home and wellness routine. This class will cover the empowering benefits of the top 10 essential oils and how to use essential oils safely and effectively. Tuesday, September 10, 6:30 p.m.

After School Program

Grades K-5 can join us one Wednesday of the month after school at 4 pm for some fun activities. On Wednesday, September 11 at 4 p.m. we will make textured stones out of clay.

Socrates Café

Interested in candid, thought-provoking conversation? Join your fellow patrons at the Socrates Café, an informal adult discussion that takes place each month here at the library. The Cafe opens on Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. 16 & over, please.

Coffee & Conversation Book Discussion

Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers! Our next discussion is Thursday, September 12 at 2 p.m. to discuss A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler.

Self Defense Basics

Master Timothy R. Loomis, 8th Dan Black Belt, from The Silent Mind martial arts school will introduce self-defense strategies, tactics, and hands-on self-defense techniques during this 90-minute mini-class. Learn that you can confidently and competently defend yourself without resorting to fighting. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes. You will be practicing simple, yet effective self-defense techniques. Registration is strongly encouraged, as space is limited. Thursday, September 12, 6 p.m.

Teens Do Something

Need volunteer hours? Join us Saturday, September 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Some of the projects we’ll be doing are making library decorations, cleaning shelves, and making toys for Akron Children’s Hospital. Contact Miss Sue with any questions.

Science Saturday

Family and join us for great hands on STEAM fun. See what new “toys” have been added! We will meet Saturday, September 14 at 2:30 p.m.

Messy Monday

Join us for some messy fun, one Monday a month at 6 p.m. Remember to wear some old clothes, you may get messy. We will make Ed Emberley-inspired fingerprint drawings on Monday, September 16 at 6 p.m.

Writers’ Guild of Nordonia Hills

Writers wanted! New writers and old hands welcome: fiction, nonfiction, and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Please bring a sample of your work to share. Light snacks provided. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 18.

Medicare 101: Navigating the Medicare Maze

Are you new to Medicare? Turning 65 soon? Leaving a company plan? This seminar will help you understand Medicare, what it covers and what it doesn’t. You will learn the difference between Medicare Supplements, Advantage Plans and Part D Prescription Plans. Thursday, September 19, 6:30 p.m.

Nordonia Hills Game Time

Join our regular gaming “meet-up” each month for patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. The next meet-up will be on Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players – Sharpen your intellect – Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No registration is necessary.

Dungeons and Dragons

Adult Coloring Night

Bring your own coloring book or choose from provided coloring pages and spend the evening relaxing and coloring with new friends. Tuesday, September 24, 6 p.m.

“Behind the Scenes of the Noodle Shop mysteries” – Vivien Chien Author Talk

Join local author Vivien Chien for a discussion on creating a setting within a setting, making an Asian community work in suburban Cleveland, the lack of recipes in a food-themed cozy, and what inspired her to write the series. Her books will be available to buy after the program. Tuesday, September 24, 6:30 p.m.

Mystery Book Discussion

The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers. Our next discussion will be on Glass Houses by Louise Penny on Wednesday, September 25, 6:30 p.m.

Let’s go Back to the 80s – An after-hours themed dinner and interactive puzzle

It’s time to dust off those parachute pants and fire up the DeLorean. We are headed back to the 1980’s for a fun night of themed games, puzzle solving and 80’s hits. This event will consist of 4 rounds of challenging puzzles with fun mini-games and trivia in between. You are a participant in a Radio Station contest to win tickets to the concert of the decade. Are you up for the challenge? Dinner is provided, and dress up is encouraged! Registration is limited to 32 for this exciting program. Register in person starting Wednesday, September 4, at 6 p.m. Online registration will open one week after that on Thursday, Sept. 12. Friday, September 27, 7 p.m.

Pirate Party

Ahoy! Let’s celebrate talk like a pirate. We’ll read a pirate book, make a pirate craft, assemble our pirate hats and hooks, play a game, and enjoy some “fish and chips.” Saturday, September 28, 3 p.m.

Family Night

Family of all ages join together for some great crafts. One Monday a month at 6 p.m. On Monday September 30, make a modern tin masterpiece.

The Secret World of Bats

Summit Metro Parks is home to a variety of bats, from Red Bats, with bright red fur and fluffy neck manes to the big brown bat, which brings to mind those “classic” bat characteristics. Come and learn about the diversity of these seldom-seen creatures and what Summit County Metro Parks is doing to manage these rare and misunderstood mammals. Wednesday, October 2, 6:30 p.m.

On the Table Dinner and Community Discussion

A one-of-a-kind initiative where diverse residents from all walks of life gather to share a meal and discuss meaningful ideas to strengthen our community.  It’s an opportunity to shape our region into a strong, vibrant, safe and dynamic place to live and work. Anyone who lives, works, or attends school in our county is invited to participate in this special meal and conversation. Event is limited to 12 participants. Registration begins on September 1. Thursday, October 3, 6 p.m.
