Nordonia School Board Candidate Bio: John Bruce

I am a 2015 graduate of Nordonia High School and attended school in the district since kindergarten. I am running to give back to the community of which I have been a part of for the last 15 years, most of my life.  Just because I lost the election in 2015 doesn’t mean I will give up. Thomas Edison did not fail, he found 10,000 ways not to make a light bulb.

Currently I work in the Parts Department at Baker Vehicle Systems in Macedonia.  While attending Nordonia High School I was a Tire Technician for Herchick’s Tire Service, also in Macedonia.  Additionally, I graduated from the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center with a certificate in Power Equipment Technology in 2015 and Machine Technology in 2017.  I believe that hard work and perseverance pay off.  I feel that have a unique and different outlook on the schools, from firsthand experience. The Nordonia School Board needs a new perspective and I believe that I could offer greater insight as a recent graduate.

I am a fiscal conservative.  I believe that the government and the Nordonia Hills Schools should live within their means, just like every day people do. It shouldn’t be the first resort to go to the hard-pressed taxpayers for a levy.  Any profits from the sale of land or other assets should be reinvested in the facilities.  Taxpayers are too hard pressed to continue to pay ever escalating taxes and if elected I will pledge to examine each expenditure, to ensure the district is living within its budget.   I am very fiscally responsible having worked at multiple jobs to help my family and pay for my own expenses and the school district needs to do the same.
