Northfield Center Trustee Candidate Bio: John Romanik

I am a 1979 Graduate of Bedford High School and attended the Cleveland Institute of Art.  I worked for 30 years as a Graphic Designer and for the last five years have been employed as a Plant Manager at Etched Metal Company in Solon.  My wife and I are 22 year residents of Northfield Center.  Growing up in Walton Hills, I remember swimming at Fell Lake and riding my bike with friends to Northfield Plaza to go to Kresge’s or the theater.  We have one son Stephen, who is currently a senior at The Ohio State University.

Through Stephen, I became involved early on in the Nordonia Hills community by coaching youth baseball, basketball and soccer.  We also have been involved in springboard diving since 2006, a sport which took us all over the United States for diving meets.  This culminated in my son Stephen winning two State Championships for Nordonia High School, becoming a Bronze and Silver medalist at the National Championships in 2016 and diving in the 2016 Olympic Trials in Indianapolis.

I have been an active church member, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, a ten-year church council member and a church Trustee.

In Northfield Center, I was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals in 2006 and re-appointed in 2010.  The Board of Appeals gave me valuable experience in understanding and interpreting the Township’s Zoning Resolution.  In January 2016, I was appointed as Trustee to fill the unexpired term of Brent Sommer.  Since then, I have attended every meeting, including Fire District and JEDD Board meetings.

I am running for Trustee to continue to address the issues facing our Township.  Summit County has recently passed their stormwater management program which will potentially affect every household and business in the Township.  We are working with residents to help them obtain approval from ODOT for a much needed sound wall along I-271.  There is the possibility of the expansion of the Joint Economic Development District that we share with Macedonia.

Personally, I have been able to use my experience as a Graphic Designer to benefit Northfield Center.  When our Fire Department vehicle needed to re-lettered, the Township asked for quotes from several local vendors.  One of these quotes totaled $10,000 dollars.  I was able to locate a company in Bedford Heights, from whom the Township purchased the bright gold vinyl need for the job. I designed, produced and installed the lettering on all of our fire vehicles for under $500.00, saving the Township thousands of dollars.  I have also donated the materials and labor to produce new signs for our Township Safety Building.  The next project will involve the signs at the borders of the Township, which are in serious need of replacement.  With your support, I will continue to donate my time and talent to our township to directly save tax dollars.

All local candidates are encouraged to submit Bio’s. See related article.
