Northfield Center Trustee Candidate Bio – Russ Mazzola

I have been a resident of Northfield Center Township for 12 years with my wife Tricia and two sons.  I have almost 20 years of financial background experience including credit, operations and in my current role as an Operational Risk Manager.  Along with my professional experience I hold an undergraduate degree from Ohio University and an MBA from Cleveland State University.  I am active in the community-volunteering at my parish, St. Barnabas, along with the NHAA and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  My family and I enjoy being a part of our great community.

Some of the bigger issues that we face as a community are fiscal responsibility (increased spending and new tax levies), storm water management, and building back relationships with our surrounding communities. For example, after we lost our Fire District with Sagamore Hills in 2016, two of our Trustees (who are up for re-election) were in favor of passing a new fire levy-this levy would have tripled our taxes for fire protection and would have cost our township over $1million dollars a year! I helped lead the effort to defeat this levy (which the community said No to by over 80%), and helped lead the way to look at other options!  Because of this we have our fire protection from Macedonia which has given us improved response times and is fiscally responsible with no new tax increases!

I am running for Trustee because it is time for new leadership, new ideas and a new perspective. Northfield Center Township residents deserve a Trustee that can be a strong steward of their tax dollars. We deserve a Trustee who values our history but has the strategic vision to move our Township forward.  Above all we deserve a Trustee who has the right judgment and temperament to listen to all of our resident’s concerns.
