Particularly Perky Pen Pals Present Posters

By Julie D’Aloiso

If you attend a girl’s basketball game you tend to see and hear fans of many shapes and sizes. At times it gets rather loud and proud. But the other night, there was a group of fans that were particularly perky.

Some first graders attended specifically to cheer on their pen pal Sandra Spellman. The students were from Crystal Dangler’s class at Ledgeview. The pen pal program was started years ago by then basketball coach Amie Cormell. Basketball players write back and forth with an elementary class. Every player has a different class. At the game, you could hear the first grade students chanting Sandra’s name and proudly holding up posters they had made.

Who knows, there might be a future lady knight in the making.

See photos from the game here.
