Run for the Hills 5k Race is Just the Beginning of the Akron Area YMCA Race Series

This is the 11th year for the Run for the Hills 5k race at the Longwood YMCA Branch. This year’s event is this Thursday at 8:30 am – Register here.

The Run for the Hills 5k Race typically gets around 100 participants, who are runners and/or walkers.  Every participant will get a T-Shirt, a Medal, and hot dog after they completed the course

This race will help the YMCA Scholarship Annual Campaign which is where they pull the scholarship funds from.  The Longwood Branch raises around $12,000 every year through events and donations from companies and people in the community of Macedonia, Sagamore Hills, Northfield, and Twinsburg.  The number of scholarship applications varies every year, but they never turn people away if they need financial assistance.

The Run for the Hills Race is the first race in a series of races for the Akron Area YMCA. This is the first year for this series of races.

Register for all three races and save on your registration fee and help support the YMCA scholarship fund. Running in the series earns you a really awesome limited addition “multi-run” metal – Register here.

In case you did not know, the Longwood YMCA has great summer programs.  Summer Day Camp is the largest program, which takes place June 11th through August 17th, where kids will go on field trips to parks, zoos, the movies, swim and play on the 30 acres of property. They enroll over 100 kids every week, and it’s a great way to keep the kids engaged, learning and active throughout the summer.  Longwood YMCA also has Before and After School Care, Preschool wth 2, 3 or 5 day options, youth sports for kids and Silver Sneaker classes for our active and older adult population.
