Silver Rose Ceremony at Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Knights of Columbus Ohio State Council is happy to announce that a Silver Rose Ceremony has been scheduled for Monday, May 22, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Macedonia. The Silver Rose Ceremony will take place following the 6:30 p.m. mass. The Knights of Columbus, and the parish of O.L.G., invite all who are interested to attend.

The Ceremony will provide an opportunity for those attending to join in song, hear inspirational readings and a Homily as well as participate in praying the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary.

At the end of the formal service, the Silver Rose will be on display and there will be time for a personal visit and private prayers.

The Silver Rose has a long and beautiful history. It all began back in 1960. The Blessed Mother known in Mexico under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe had done so much for her people in Mexico that the Columbian Squires, the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus wanted to give something back to her.

The idea was a planned “Running of the Rose” to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey Mexico. The Squires wished to share their enthusiasm and prayerful dedication to Our Lady with the Squires from the United States and Canada. The idea was a beautiful success and a relay of running the rose started in Canada, proceeded through the United States and ended in Mexico.

Eventually, with wanting to repeat this beautiful tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe, a silver rose was fashioned because of the wilting of the natural rose used the first time. Over the years the relay and ceremony has expanded and this year, 2017 there will be six silver roses.  Most of the Silver Roses start their journey in each the Canadian provinces, stop at many parishes in each diocese for a devotional ceremony and arrive at their scheduled destination in the US or Mexico by December 12th.

Ohio will be part of the relay of the Fourth Silver Rose. This Silver Rose starts its journey in Ontario moving through the mid-west (including Ohio) and some of the Mid-Atlantic States before ending in Washington D.C. on November 12, 2017 and will be there until December 12, 2017 (The Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe).
