State Wrestling Tournament: Wrestler Spotlight – Sal Perrine By Jessica Archer (PHOTO GALLERY)

Sal Perrine (160 lbs) made his first appearance at the State Tournament this year as a sophomore in the 160 lb weight class. He beat David Soghomonyan of Upper Arlington 13-6 Thursday night, advancing to the championship round Friday morning. Here he met Padraic Gallagher from St. Ed’s, who went onto win the state championship and be named the Division 1 Tournament MVP, falling to him by technical fall 25-10.  Despite having to take injury time out to puke twice during the match, Perrine emerged victorious, beating Drew Wiechers from Centerville 8-5 in the Consolation Quarterfinals Friday afternoon. In the next round, he lost to Adam Morton of Westerville South 12-4. Continuing to fight off sickness, Perrine ended his sophomore season beating Sean Mondello from Oxford Talawanda by technical fall 16-1, earning a 7th place finish. Perrine will return to the football field and wrestling room at NHS as a junior next year.
