Yesterday at 1523 hours, the Citizens Bank in Sagamore Hills, was robbed at gun point. The suspect took an undetermined amount of cash and fled the bank. Thankfully nobody was injured.
Sagamore Hills officers quickly responded and with the assistance of Macedonia Police, Northfield Village Police, Walton Hills Police and the Summit County Sheriff Office, the search began for the suspect. With no idea of the suspects direction of travel, officers were spread out over the area.
After speaking to an FBI agent out of the Akron office, we learned the same suspect attempted another bank robbery earlier in the day. He was also a suspect in 3 additional bank robberies that the FBI was working.
As officers were clearing the perimeter, additional information that was gained from the FBI was given out. This additional information included a description of the vehicle that their suspect had been using. This additional information was given out over the air and immediately a suspect was located in a nearby gas station with a broken down vehicle.
Upon questioning, officers quickly located the clothing items worn during the robbery in a garbage can right next to this vehicle. Officers also located $4,447.00 in cash (stuffed in a trash bag) and a pistol in the vehicle which matched the description given by all witnesses. The pistol was an airsoft bb gun/toy. The suspect was taken into custody, booked and transported to Summit County Jail.
With the fast response by area officers and the information gained by the FBI, the suspect was located and apprehended at 1623 hours, exactly one hour after the initial call.
