Now that the dust has settled, and the votes are in, we can now see what direction communities in Nordonia Hills want to take in the running of the community. Macedonia, with all three of the Red, White and Blue Ticket getting elected, speaks volumes in favor of the Mayor Migliorini run administration. Tulley, Brandt and Ventura, the three Council winners, should all work in tandem with the Mayor, and his future plans. The dissension on Macedonia Council that has permeated for many years seemingly went away with these results. Harmony and sanity should be restored at the Thursday night meetings.
Russ Mazzola was the big winner in Northfield Center’s trustee election last night, garnering the most votes. Paul Buescher, seeking a fourth term, will have to sweat out a recount with Marc Pepera, as only three votes (718-715 for Buescher) separate the two. John Romanik finished fourth. The swing of power might have shifted to Trustee Rich Reville, regardless of the recount tally. Mazzola has indicated he desires Northfield Center to maintain its own autonomy. Only time will tell.
Northfield Village Council had no opposition in the four council seats that were open. With money flowing in from the Hard Rock, residents appear to be happy with the status quo. The Northfield Village residents appear to favor Mayor Nehez’s stance of not needing the aide of Macedonia in regionalization issues as well.
Issue #23 (Fire Levy) in Sagamore Hills was tantamount to David fighting Goliath. Resident Kim Griner, a staunch backer of the former Fire District 27 group, waged an uphill battle against the powers that be in Sagamore Hills. The Fire levy did pass, but the methods used in getting that accomplished are open for debate. Allegations of intimidation, bullying and personal attacks were reported by Ms. Griner during this campaign. We may not have heard the last of these events in the future.
We can now come up for air for at least another two years when politics and campaigning will rear it’s ugly head once again. Mayors races in Macedonia and Northfield Village will be on the agenda, as will council seats in both communities. One trustee seat will be available in both Sagamore Hills and Northfield Center as well. Nordonia Hills. News will continue to cover all the races with our keen insight into Nordonia Hills politics.
