First year Nordonia coach Kelsey Shiray certainly has the lineage to coach the Lady Knights softball team. Shiray is a former player for the Knights, having graduated in 2011, as well as being an assistant coach on the girls basketball squad. The Lady Knights had a coaching change last season, and it seemed there was a sense of disconnect on the team. The team compiled an 11-13 overall record, and 7-7 in Suburban League National Conference play.

Six seniors will lead the charge this year, with shortstop Lexi Maciejowski being the catalyst on offense. The Notre Dame College bound Maciejowski, is an offensive and defensive leader on the team. Senior Hannah Ours will handle most of the catching duties. Senior Grace Barth (first base), Kayla Buck (second base) will anchor the senior laden infield. Senior Kendall Becker will patrol center field, with junior Jenn Willis in right field. Nordonia ’s pitching ace will be Senior Rachel Cornett, who will also serve in the utility players role. Backing Cornett in the pitching rotation will be freshman Hallie Majoros, who will also serve as a utility player. Other members of the utility squad will be Juniors Jordyn Dean and Nina Christley, and sophomore Riley Saliga. They will all see time at third base and the outfield.

Coach Shiray’s coaching staff will consist of last years coach Rita Covin, and Kendall Fischer. Nordonia opened the season on a positive note, defeating Mayfield. Click here for Girls Softball Schedule
