Should Northfield Village Allow a Medical Marijuana Dispensary to Open on Rt.8? That is the question that NordoniaHills.News is asking our readers. Only three medical marijuana licenses will be permitted in Summit County. It is assumed Akron will get one of those permits.
Northfield Village Council met Wednesday with two firms seeking to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in Northfield Village on Rt.8. People wanting to purchase the marijuana for medicinal reasons would need a prescription from the doctor for a pre existing condition. The storefront must be a certain footage away from churches, schools, daycares etc. Mayor Jesse Nehez says he is against this in Northfield Village due to uncertain, confusing wording of the house bill that would govern the legislation and enforcement of the proposed dispensary. Nehez said although he is in favor of medicinal marijuana, he doesn’t see it as a good fit in Northfield Village. It is unclear as to how much revenue this would bring to Northfield coffers. Northfield Village Law Director Brad Bryan currently is drafting legislation to ban the location of such a dispensary in Northfield Village. Northfield Village Council members will consider the legislation at the next meeting next Wednesday (10/25) at 7:30pm. A ½ hour question and answer period will begin at 7:00 pm prior to the regularly scheduled meeting for the public to express their concerns and opinions
