I know first hand what it’s like to run a town with road, capital improvement needs, and problems, and little to no money to remedy the problems. As tight budgeted Northfield Village was during my 12 years (B.H.R.) before Hard Rock, we lived by the mantra robbing Peter to pay Paul. Luckily Northfield Village currently enjoys the financial windfall the Hard Rock has bestowed them. Unfortunately, there is no Hard Rock in Macedonia’s future. Just HARD TIMES!
I am not going to tell the Macedonia residents how to spend their money. I can only state the facts. The upcoming tax levy in May now has a number, ISSUE #3. The FACTS: Macedonia roads are crumbling to the tune of $20 million dollars needed right now.
The Macedonia Recreation Center can operate as is for maybe two years, Your Service Department is at the same level that it was in 2001 and is need of new trucks, Your real estate tax’s are the same since 1963. The Police are in need of ten new cruisers. The employees morale is down as they are look at another year of no raises. Some may not even have a job due to layoffs if the levy fails. SERVICES WILL HAVE TO BE CUT BACK TO THE BARE BONE!. The doom and gloom forecasts that Mayor Migliorini pontificates from the podium ARE REAL!
I’m not a finance director or accountant by any means, But having dealt with government fiscal books and finance, I know trouble when I see it. I have looked over the Macedonia financial situation (the real numbers, not someone’s mythical numbers) from an unbiased, outsiders opinion. MACEDONIA IS IN A REAL FINANCIAL CRISIS! The low carryover in the general fund going into 2018 would leave me waking up in a cold sweat if I were the Mayor. There is NO MONEY FOR CAPITAL OR ROAD IMPROVEMENTS! There is no magic wand, or lottery ticket that can help Macedonia. YOU NEED TO HELP YOURSELF. This levy coming in May is not the total answer to all what is ailing Macedonia. Mayor Migliorini admits it’s a band aide. But the REALITY is, if it doesn’t pass, your income tax goes down to 1.75% in July. If you can’t afford to do anything with the current 2%, you will get even less then! You might as well post signs at certain roads-TRAVEL AT YOUR OWN RISK – due to crumbling roads! For Macedonia residents, you will pay the same rate today, as you will tomorrow if the levy passes. And the Macedonia Recreation Center gets necessary funds for maintenance and repairs, and the roads will finally get overdue repairs. The comment was made that this levy might make business’s leave Macedonia. Poppycock! FACT; For every $1 MILLION DOLLARS profit they make, a business will pay an additional $2500. I highly doubt that is reason to move!
This is a no brainer to be honest. Any feelings, bad or good you might have for the current administration, leave at the door. Take the politics, and the politicians out of the equation! This is not a Hannaken issue. It’s not a Migliorini issue. It’s a levy for the survival and property values of Macedonia, and it’s residents. Don’t be penny wise and dollar foolish. Don’t let BOGUS flyers dictate your vote. Go directly to Macedonia Finance Director Rhonda Hall for the REAL FACTS AND FIGURES. Nordonia Hills has looked to Macedonia as the strong beacon for years. Let’s not let the beacon continue to grow dim. HELP YOURSELVES! HELP MACEDONIA IN IT’S TIME OF NEED. IF YOU CAN. VOTE YES ON ISSUE#3.
