30th Annual Prom Fair and Fashion Show Held to Benefit “After Prom”

The 30th annual Prom Fair was introduced by the master of ceremonies Ms. Jessica Archer, Associate Principal, and Mr. Joseph Knight, Business Dept. Teacher at NHS. Prom Fair was recently attended by 430 people, raising $4,415.00, with the 50/50 raffle bringing in $660. All funds go directly to the themed “After Prom” event, which will be held on May 6, 2023 from 11 pm-2 am for the senior class of 2023. Ninety seniors participated in the prom fair event, making up the featured part of the presentation, the fun fashion show. The students twirled their partners as they waltzed onto the stage, strutting their stuff, and showing their character as they walked down the runway in their formal attire. Twenty-five seniors and their families who also graduated from Nordonia High School joined them for the alumni parade portion of the night.

Class of 1993 Was The First Class to Have Prom Fair “EJT in ’93”
Jeanne Matejkovic Cashion, (grad c/o ’67), and other PTA council members were at Bedford High school for a meeting and the PTA members from Bedford shared that they had a Prom Fair where the junior class wore the dresses and tuxedos to put on a fashion show for the senior class. Jeanne and Virginia Hannah presented the idea to class officers at Nordonia. The committee realized that they did not have the funds to have graduation ceremonies at EJ Thomas Hall, thus they decided to put on the Prom Fair to save EJ Thomas Hall for graduation. The motto that year was “EJT in ’93”. The Senior Class put on the fashion show and raised the fund for graduation at EJ Thomas Hall. They had vendors from florists, hair salons, barbers, limo services, tuxedo places, etc.

The “After Prom” Committee is comprised of parents; Shannon Larsen Prom Fair Chair, and Committee Members; Laurie Heiser and Heather Hamilton – script writers, Jen Gruber, Anita Wujnovich, Samua Kormanik along many others that help with practices, decorations, dress fittings and delivering the tuxedos.
Several fundraisers are held throughout the year to raise between $20,000-$25,000 to pay for all of the After Prom expenses. Such events have been The Cash for the Holidays Calendar (based on the Ohio Lottery Pick 3), Winter Arts Craft (held with 72 vendors in December), and the VFW sponsored a Texas Hold’em Tournament and donated the funds.

“AFTER PROM” Event
All funds are used for the themed “After Prom” event planned by the Senior Class parents and take place at the High School on May 6th from 11 pm-2 am. “It is a fun and relaxed environment to attend after prom for the senior class to have a way to spend time with each other” and that was WHY it was first created.
The parents do all of the fundraisings to cover the expenses of food, entertainment (DJ, Games, inflatable obstacle courses, casino tables, photo booths, and anything extra to go along with the theme for the year). The HS back entrance, hallways, cafeteria, large gym, and small gym are all decorated based on the theme of After Prom from ceiling to floor. The Decorations Committee spends months building all of the things they need. Also, prizes/gifts are given to all that attend After Prom.
