WHAT’S THE PROBLEM SAGAMORE?

Former Fire District Secretary, Rosemary Barrett, has been employed as the District’s “Closeout” Secretary since the District disbanded last September.  Her job has been to handle all of the paperwork and finances involved in the final shutdown of all District matters.  Her duties are expected to continue for at least the next few months and her salary is being paid for on a 50/50 basis between NCT and Sagamore Hills.

At this evening’s Trustees meeting, Rosemary was asked to give a brief synopsis on the current shutdown situation.  She reported that Sagamore Hills owes the District approximately $109,525.54 with $57,509.29 of that dating back to last May!  There is also an additional $2,217.16 owed to the District by Sagamore for their share of legal fees.  It was also reported that Sagamore’s Fiscal Officer, Scott Gale, has not responded to several payment requests.  WHAT’S THE PROBLEM SAGAMORE?

 DID YOU KNOW ……

Did you know that if you quit your job, even if you voluntarily walk off the job and quit, that you can collect unemployment compensation in Ohio?  According to Ohio’s Job and Family Services it is true.  A few years back we had an employee who quit to take another job with a new employer.  He was eventually laid off from that job and we had to pay a portion of his unemployment payments!  And just this past year we had an employee voluntarily walk off his job and despite our complaints against paying him unemployment, we were overruled.

I always thought that a person had to lose his/her job due to circumstances beyond their control to be eligible for unemployment compensation.  I guess I was wrong – What a rip-off of taxpayers’ dollars!  This is something that our State Representatives need to change!

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q >>> – I have lived here for a little over a year and have been hearing gun shots especially on weekends.  I hear this behind Charter Lake and at other times it is coming from somewhere off of Highland Road.  Is this legal in our city and if it is is it being done safely?

A >>> – Northfield Center is a TOWNSHIP, not a city and yes, it is legal as it is in the other 900+ townships in Ohio.  The two areas that you mention were checked out prior to your concern and were found to be safe.

Q >>> – Now that we have Macedonia as our fire department how are the response times?

A >>> – Response times from our station (station 3) averaged out to 3-minutes, 43-seconds.  This was for all of December as reported by Macedonia Fire Chief, Tim Black.

Q >>> – Did the Fire Department change frequencies when it changed over to Macedonia?  I used to have a scanner but it bit the dust and I got a new one for Christmas and haven’t heard our department.  Where did they go and what frequency are they on?

A >>> – You can hear NCT calls on 423.950, which is Macedonia’s main frequency.  Our ‘old’ frequency will be a backup frequency for Macedonia and it will also be shared with some of our Road Department operations.
