Nordonia Knights Rocket Past Bay

By Carson Carrell

Last Friday, the Nordonia Knights Ice Hockey Team took on the Bay Rockets in a regular league game at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

The Knights got off to a quick lead when center Brian Sebastian and winger Carson Carrell headed to the net after only a few seconds had elapsed after the starting face-off. Brian and Carson quickly scored, which was the start to a phenomenal first period. The Knights were dominating the game, 8-1 after the first.  The running clock rule was in effect after the Knights were up by six points.

The Knights refused to let up.  The team came out in the second and ended up putting up three more goals.  It was definitely a team effort with the majority of players contributing to getting the puck in the net.  The game ended at the end of the second period with the eleventh goal being blasted into the net during the final seconds.  Once the Knights were up by ten the “mercy rule” was activated and the game was called.

The final score of the Knights vs Rockets season opener was 11-1.  Carson Carrell had 5 goals, Anthony Stutler with 2; Josh Krysinski, Max Zuschin, Kenton Carrell, Anthony Rock with 1 goal each; Brian Sebastian 3 assists; Kenton Carrell 2 assists; Matt Monaco, Josh Krysinski, Dan Kimpton, Nick Juchnik with 1 assist each, and Tommy Lippincott with 6 saves.  Anthony Stuttler was awarded the “hard work” hockey dog from Tommy Lippincott. The “dog” is an unofficial award handed from one team member to the next for their strong performance in a game.

The Knights have started their season off right with a 1-0 standing, and that is sure to get better as the season progresses. Just one more step to getting that Baron Cup. Go Knights!
