Obituary: MADELINE (MADGE) ALICIA MILKO (nee Sheehan)

MADELINE (MADGE) ALICIA MILKO (nee Sheehan), age 97, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day. Beloved wife of the late Thomas C. Milko and loving mother of Maureen Sammis (Gordon), Madeline Giordano (Joseph), Thomas Jr. (Elaine), Christopher (deceased), Mark (Michele), Charles (Dolores Minisall), Monica Vana (Dan), and David (Heather); grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother of ten. Madge was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Sheehan (Leyden). She has three siblings, Margaret “Peggy” (Charles, brother of Thomas deceased) Milko, Catherine (David Lloyd) (both deceased), and Thomas (Elizabeth) (both deceased). Dear aunt and great aunt of many. The fondest memories of her childhood were summers spent with her grandmother, Bridgit Leyden, on Kelley’s Island. Madge started her working career at the Doanbrook Hotel as a telephone operator. Following graduation from John Adams High School, she married her sweetheart, Thomas (Tom) C. Milko on July 24th 1943, in Baton Rouge, La. prior to his departure for WWII. Tom and Madge lived in Bedford, for 60 years and were one of the founding families of St. Pius X Church (now called Our Lady of Hope). Madge inherited a deep faith from her Irish parents and became a Eucharistic Minister and active in the Cursillo Movement. She worked for Academy Answering Service for 15 years along with her sister Peggy. Madge resided at Solon Pointe Nursing Facility for the past 10 years. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides of Solon Pointe for their compassionate care of Madge.
