Question: Why do some people wear devices behind their ear while others wear only a device in their ear?

Answer: The style of a hearing aid depends on many factors. First, the type and severity of the loss will help the audiologist make an initial recommendation. Next, patient preference, dexterity concerns, and inclusion of other features such as rechargeability are considered. If you have a preference, express it to your audiologist and they will be able to provide you with the pros and cons of each style. A common misconception is that a custom made devices that fit inside the canal are more expensive than behind the ear devices. What influences the price of the device is the technology inside, not how the device looks. If you have questions about what style is appropriate for you and your lifestyle, please call and schedule a hearing aid consult at our Northfield office.
