Nordonia High School Junior Taylor Root will be attending the 20.22 Buckeye Girls State at the University of Mount Union, Alliance, Ohio, the week of June 12 through June 18, 2022. She is being jointly sponsored by Nordonia Hills American Legion Post 801 and the Ladies Auxiliary Unit 196, Brecksville, Ohio.
Buckeye Girls State is the name given to Ohio’s Girls State program, which was designed to educate Ohio’s young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good
citizenship. Delegates will learn more about City, County and State Government in one week of active participation than they will learn in a classroom setting.
The Ohio American Legion Auxiliary has been a proud sponsor of Buckeye Girls State for the past seventy-five years. The program has been honored by such organizations as Freedom’s Foundation at Valley Forge and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Approximately 25,000 girls participate each year in Girls State programs nationwide.
American Legion Auxiliary Units, assisted by high school principals and guidance counselors, evaluate potential leadership qualities of the high school junior women who want to be interviewed for selection as Delegates or Alternates.
Applicants are eligible to attend Girls State if they meet the following criteria:
