As the warm weather winds down we look back on a successful 2022 season of Longwood Manor activities.
May saw the first Mother/Daughter Tea in the Manor house with teas and light refreshments being served to our guests. Plans are to repeat this event in 2023.
July featured a concert by the University Heights Symphonic Band on the grounds outside of the Manor house. Look for another band concert next July.
FallFest featured a booth with LMHS personnel and information about the Longwood Manor house and grounds.
Sports season during September and October on the Longwood Park grounds had a concession stand serving attendees at the games.
And our second annual Haunted Manor, now renamed Haunted Hallows, had spooky activities in the Manor house and surrounding grounds.
We’re happy to report all of the events well-received.
And, you’ll see us at the upcoming WinterFest December 10th. Watch this space for times and LMHS participation information.
In other LMHS news, work progresses on restoring the interior and exterior of the property. The grounds have been cleaned up and mulched. Roof repairs have been completed. Tuck-pointing has been accomplished to repair some of the outside brickwork. Painting of the outside second floor has been started.Â
As the weather cools down, members will be working indoors on repairs to the dining room and second floor. The heating system output has been improved. Plans are to start repairs to the lighting and electrics.
None of this work could have been done without the participation and cooperation of our LMHS members and volunteers. Special thanks to Deb, John, Dorothy, Jan, Marge, and Heidi for their work on the aforementioned activities. And a thank-you to Kathy and Marilyn for their assistance with the Haunted Hallows decorations
We also want to thank Jason Chadock and Samantha Edgar of the Macedonia Parks and Recreation Department for their coordination in these activities. And a thanks to the Macedonia Service Department for helping with groundskeeping, plowing, and clearing the overgrowth so the Manor is now visible when heading east on East Aurora Road! Their cooperation and participation is truly appreciated.
Our last Open House for the season will be Sunday, November 27th, from 1pm to 4pm. The Manor Open Houses will resume Sunday, March 26th, 2023.Â
In the meantime, you can follow LMHS activities on our website, http://www.longwoodmanor.org, and the LMHS Facebook page.
Again, thank you one and all for your support of Longwood Manor and the Longwood Manor Historical Society.
We can’t do it without you.
