Your Nordonia Knights hockey team dominated against the Twinsburg Tigers at their home game on Sunday, December 4th. Twinsburg is one of Nordonia’s biggest rivals in most sports including football, basketball, hockey, soccer, etc, so this win against our enemy meant a lot. The game progressively got more physical as time went on, giving both Nordonia and Twinsburg penalties after penalties towards the end of the 2nd period and into the 3rd. The first goal was scored by sophomore Noah Vega in the 1st period, assisted by junior Brett Rapp and Owen Tindall.
The Gilmour Academy Ice Arena was filled with a student section larger than usual, and of course some parents and grandparents too.
A few minutes went by with no scoring, but with just a couple minutes left in the 1st period junior Brett Rapp scored unassisted. He took the puck from behind the blue line on Nordonia’s side and skated it up and into the goal on Twinsburgs half of the ice, holding possession the entire time.
The Twinsburg Tigers were able to make a slight comeback in the second period, scoring a goal to make the score 2-1. However, the Knights were able to get another puck down the ice and into the goal thanks to Jacob Waite. With the score being 2-1, junior Jacob Waite got the puck in the back of the net making the score 3-1. Jacob’s goal was assisted by Daniel Kimpton.
Brett Rapp got another goal in the third period, again unassisted, to give the Knights an even stronger lead of 4-1. However, senior Kevin Waite let one more goal slip past him shortly after and the Tigers scored. The final score was 4-2, the Knights with the win. Kevin Waite had 14 saves out of the 16 shots taken on net. This means he had 88% accuracy with his cat-like reflexes. Being a catcher on the Nordonia baseball team gives him an advantage being a goalie on the ice.
The next home hockey game for the Knights is Tuesday, December 20th at 9:00pm. They will face NDCL and the likelihood of Nordonia winning is always higher if the crowd is larger. Tickets are only 4 dollars for students and senior citizens, and 7 dollars for adults. We all hope to see you there!
