SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—In March 2020, due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, Congress temporarily increased benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Recent changes to federal law will no longer permit these allotments to continue. As a result, the last SNAP emergency allotment will be in February 2023, after which benefits will be reduced to pre-pandemic levels. Beginning in March 2023, recipients will receive only their one, normal monthly payment. The additional emergency allotment, which was issued at the end of each month, will no longer be provided. Recipients can review their benefit amounts by logging into the Self-Service Portal (SSP) at ssp.benefits.ohio.gov.
It is important to understand that this change is governed by Federal Law and, as a result, neither the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services nor Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro’s Department of Job and Family Services have control over this change, and there will be no rights or benefits regarding fair hearing.
