A few years on what was probably a Veterans Day, another veteran and I spoke to a Third Grade Class at Northfield Elementary School on Olde Route Eight. I told them MY Third Grade teacher was Miss Ann at St. Mary’s in Berea and that school year she broke my heart. Before I could add that she got married and didn’t wait for me to grow up to marry her, my remark brought a crescendo of laughter from the entire class. It was my unexpected remark that caught them by surprise and delighted them…and me.
When matters settled a bit ( a long bit) I told them why but they seemed to have guessed it before my added remark.
