Despite seeing their 6-run lead whittled down by the end, Twinsburg Varsity Tigers still held off for a 6-4 victory on Wednesday. Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs closed the gap by scoring on a double and a single.
Twinsburg Varsity Tigers opened the scoring in the second after R. Velican hit a solo home run to center field.
Twinsburg Varsity Tigers extended their early lead with five runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Velican, K. Eder, and R. McConoughey.
A. Basel earned the win for Twinsburg Varsity Tigers. The pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking four. Natalie Betz took the loss for Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs. The starter went three innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking three. Velican pitched two innings of scoreless ball for Twinsburg Varsity Tigers in relief. The reliever gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking none.
Velican provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Twinsburg Varsity Tigers with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Velican, McConoughey, and Eder each collected two hits for Twinsburg Varsity Tigers.
Olivia Patterson, Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs’s number seven hitter, led the team with two hits in four at-bats. Lexi Watson and Patterson each drove in two runs for Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs. Kenzie Orosz led Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Stow-Munroe Falls Varsity Bulldogs turned two double plays in the game.
Twinsburg Varsity Tigers will travel to Field Falcons for their next game on Friday.
