A search operation on the East Reservoir ended in tragedy Wednesday morning after a partially sunken boat led investigators to a missing boater whose body was later recovered from the water.
Search Begins After Boat Reported
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 8 a.m. from a resident along South Main Street reporting a partially sunken boat in the East Reservoir. Deputies traced the boat to a 55 year old man from Copley. His truck and trailer were found in the parking lot at Old State Park.
Crews from the Ohio Division of Natural Resources, Summit County Metro Parks, and several local fire departments responded and began searching the surrounding area for the missing man. Drones and sonar units were deployed to scan the reservoir.
Body Located and Recovered
The search led crews to locate and recover the man’s body from the reservoir. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the incident. No further details have been released.
