The Ohio Department of Transportation has released its latest list of construction projects affecting Summit County highways. All scheduled work is weather permitting. Several projects sit close to home for Nordonia Hills drivers.
Closest to Home
Highland Road and Valley View Road, Macedonia
The intersection of Highland Road and Valley View Road has various lane restrictions. Crews are widening the roadway. Work is expected to wrap up in December.
State Route 303, Richfield Township
Newly added to the list, SR 303 just east of I-77 is closed through late October. Crews are replacing a culvert. The detour follows I-271 south to I-77 south, then SR 176/Broadview Road back to SR 303.
State Route 82, Sagamore Hills Township
Bridge repairs on SR 82 have closed a portion of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail under the bridge. Trail users should expect the closure to last through early November.
Interstate 480, Hudson and Twinsburg
Bridge deck replacement continues on I-480 over Stow Road. Eastbound and westbound lanes have various restrictions. Stow Road under I-480 remains closed through mid-November. Drivers can detour using Old Mill Road to Ravenna Road to Middleton Road. ODOT estimates the project will be complete in late November.
Interstate 77 Projects
Noise Wall Installation, Akron
I-77 northbound between Waterloo Road and Lovers Lane has occasional lane restrictions. Crews are installing noise walls. Completion is estimated for late fall.
Widening, Fairlawn and Bath Township
Various lane closures are in place on I-77 between Ghent Road and Everett Road. The work includes widening and resurfacing. It is also expected to finish in late fall.
I-277/U.S. 224 Bridge Deck Replacement, Akron and Coventry Township
The ramp from I-77 northbound to I-277/U.S. 224 westbound is down to one lane through mid-November. On the bridge itself, I-277/U.S. 224 over I-77 is reduced to one lane in each direction. That repair work is not expected to wrap up until June 2028.
State Route 8 Bridge Replacement, Akron
A new closure affects East North Street under SR 8 through late October. Eastbound traffic should detour via Howard Street to Glenwood Avenue to Dan Street to North Street. Westbound drivers will use Dan Street to Glenwood Avenue to Howard Street.
All three lanes of SR 8 in both directions now run on the new southbound bridge. Three ramps remain closed through late fall 2028:
- Perkins Street to SR 8 north. Detour: Perkins Street to Goodkirk Street to Buchtel Avenue to Fountain Street to SR 8 northbound.
- SR 8 northbound to Glenwood Avenue. Detour: Tallmadge Avenue to Home Avenue.
- SR 8 south to Buchtel Avenue. Detour: SR 8 south to Perkins Street to Goodkirk Street.
The overall project is estimated to finish in fall 2028.
Other Summit County Work
State Route 91, Munroe Falls
SR 91 is closed between River Road and Munroe Falls Avenue for a bridge replacement. The closure runs through early November. Drivers should follow SR 261 to SR 8 to SR 59.
State Route 261, Norton and Akron
Resurfacing and bridge repairs bring various lane restrictions to two stretches of SR 261. One runs from the Medina County line to Romig Road. The other runs between I-77 and SR 59. Work should be finished by late October.
