AKRON, OH (October 10, 2023) — The Akron Black Artist Guild, in collaboration with The University of Akron and University Libraries, is hosting the “Outlined in Black” Exhibition opening reception on Saturday, October 14 at the Bierce Library on campus. Following the reception, the exhibition will be on display until November 18.
The “Outlined in Black” exhibition is a representation of the diverse and vibrant voices within the Black community, featuring a variety of artistic expressions. Held at The University of Akron, this year’s collection aims to inspire, challenge, and engage audiences through thoughtful narratives and innovative techniques.
The opening reception offers an opportunity for attendees to engage with the artists, fostering dialogue between the community and the creators. The evening will include live poetry readings and music, with a selection of appetizers provided, offering a culturally insightful experience for all attendees.
“This exhibition is a complete embodiment of our mission,” said Dara Harper, President of the Akron Black Artist Guild. “Our partnership with The University of Akron is the perfect addition, helping us to foster greater connection between artists and the community.”
“We are excited that Bierce Library was selected as the venue for this event,” notes Dr. Aimée deChambeau, Dean of University Libraries, “and delighted to welcome visitors to the exhibit while it remains on display.“
The Akron Black Artist Guild and The University of Akron are honored to host this event and extend an invitation to all—art enthusiasts, students, and community members—to join in this celebration of Black artistry. Free tickets can be obtained via the ABAG site, www.abaguild.org
