People all across the world are socially separating themselves and relocating to a work-from-home lifestyle. As COVID-19 spreads, an increasing number of people are working from home for the first time. Here’s a guide to transitioning to work from home.
Create a Dedicated Working Space
While working from your bed in your pajamas all day seems appealing, it’s not the most efficient way to work from home for most individuals. It can be helpful to get up, have breakfast, and get ready for work in the same way you would on any other day to preserve boundaries and schedules (more on this later).
Keep a Schedule
It’s tempting to sleep until the last minute before a call, but you’ll be doing yourself a disservice. Why not make the most of the time you’d be sitting on a bus or train? Have you meant to exercise but can’t seem to find the time? You’ve been waiting for some more time, and now it’s finally here. Read for pleasure. Make a leisurely breakfast. Spend quality time with your children. Get your work done early, and your day will be shorter! While sleeping in is certainly pleasurable, you’ll feel a lot better about your productivity if you make the most of your time.
Be Realistic About Your Output
Do you work eight hours every day in an office? You probably spend at least a couple of hours each day chatting with coworkers, grabbing coffee, checking social media, and doing other things unrelated to work. Don’t feel obligated to work eight hours every day now that those things are gone from your schedule. However, remember to maintain consistency in your output.
Make Sure You Have All the Tools You Need
Just because you’ve previously answered emails or handled phone calls from home doesn’t guarantee you have all you need to work from home for weeks on end. Whether you need to speed up your internet or buy a new ergonomic chair to ensure you’re comfortable while working, make sure you have everything you need to do your job.
