Sarah is the Nordonia Library Branch manager who started in April 2022. Sarah mentions working at her local library from ages 12 to 16 as a page, then after a brief detour of working at a couple of bookstores, decided to major in library science. A “page” is someone who assists by shelving books, also called a “shelver or student assistant”. While talking to Sarah, I found out that her favorite childhood book is “Chicken Soup With Rice”, by Maurice Sendak. As an adult she says that she loves non-fiction books, especially ones with perspectives of culture and humanity, or a sense of humor. A great example would be Hanif Abdurraqib’s “They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us”, which is Sarah’s most recent favorite. Sarah is excited to be working alongside a dedicated team with children’s librarian Melissa Recco, and the PSA Lisa Olexa, along with others, and mentions them as “being passionate about books, their library and also helping everyone who walks through the door”.
The library staff is thrilled to be choosing and bringing their favorite crafts to do for the Adult/Teen Crafts Series Creativity Club, will be getting underway soon- with two separate groups in the morning and the evening. Crafts such as sculpting, jewelry, collages, and book folding will be offered for adults and teens age 13 and up.
The Nordonia Hills Library has The Friends of the Library book sale events twice per year. The next sale will be Aug.26 from 3-6pm and Sat. Aug.27, from 2-4pm. What is Friends of the Library you say? It is a volunteer organization consisting of community members who receive and sell donated books, to benefit the library. For example, they have recently sponsored and purchased better lighting and backgrounds for passport pictures to be taken. YES! You heard right! You can get your passport pictures at the Nordonia Hills Library! Remember those vacations you would like to take to head out of the country, or perhaps to our friendly northern neighboring Canada- to see Niagara Falls, well don’t forget those passports!
Whether you are looking for a quiet place to read/study, make use of the many programs that the library has to offer, or use the streaming services to download books and/or magazines, the Nordonia Hills Library has so much to offer you. Sarah wants you to know that they are a “Library of Things” so check out what you can CHECK OUT to borrow for at home use. When my kids were little, I recall borrowing the multi-colored parachute for about 12 kindergarten age kids to hold and shake wildly up and down, while tossing a small ball in the middle, to make “popcorn”. It was both free and entertaining for the kids and I was happy to make use of a great resource!
