Age Friendly Summit County launching community engagement campaign

411

SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—Beginning Monday, September 27, Age Friendly Summit County is offering an opportunity for residents to provide feedback on the County’s ongoing work to become an AARP Age Friendly Community. This initiative launched in 2020 under the leadership of County Executive Ilene Shapiro and is supported by Direction Home Akon Canton Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities, the Akron Community Foundation and several other local community organizations.

Any resident, who is an older adult, cares for an older adult, works on behalf of older adults or is generally interested in supporting the Age Friendly project, is invited to participate. There are three participation options:

  1. “On The Table” Small Group Input

Modeled after the “On the Table” initiative, small groups (6-8 people) can gather virtually or in-person to provide input. Interested groups can download a meeting kit at www.AgeFriendlySummit.com or pick one up at the following Akron-Summit County Library locations: Downtown Akron, Springfield-Lakemore, Fairlawn-Bath, Green, Mogadore, Nordonia Hills, Norton, Portage Lakes, Richfield, Tallmadge.

  1. Virtual Public Meeting on October 6

The Planning Team will facilitate a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, October 6 from 12-1 p.m. Meeting registration is available at www.AgeFriendlySummit.com.

  1. Self-paced Online Survey

An online survey is available at www.AgeFriendlySummit.com.

Public input is critical to the development of the County’s five year Age Friendly Action Plan. Residents have until mid-October to participate in one of the three engagement options.
