Why’d it have to be Nick Chubb? Well, unfortunately, the Cleveland Browns running back had a severe season-ending knee injury that forced them to bring back free agent running back Kareem Hunt on a one-year four-million-dollar contract.
Hunt is 28 years old and spent the last four seasons as part of the Browns in a backup running back role alongside Chubb. Last season, Hunt rushed for 468 yards and had 210 receiving yards.
Currently, the Browns still have Jerome Ford in the backfield as a rusher moving forward.
Many are concerned about Chubb’s injury. A four-time Pro Bowler in six seasons, Chubb got injured when Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick tackled him low on a carry in the second quarter. The impact snapped the same knee Chubb injured in 2015 at Georgia in college and had reconstructed.
It was officially announced by the Browns that the running back will have to have surgery on the knee and that his season is over. What fans across not just Cleveland but the entire country are wondering is if Chubb will ever play football again. The key is a surgeon who is skilled and knows how to reconstruct the knee in a way that will allow a recovery. If there’s anyone who can do it through hard work and dedication it’s Nick Chubb.
In 2022, Chubb rushed 302 times for 1,525 yards and had 12 touchdowns. Additionally, Chubb caught 27 passes for 239 yards and a single score. In the two games this year before getting hurt, Chubb rushed 28 times for 170 yards.
Kareem Hunt was certainly a key free agent who was bouncing around various teams looking for a home this year. The Browns jumped at the opportunity to bring this running back home after the terrible injury that occurred and the confirmation that the running back in Nick Chubb was out for the season and the position needed to be filled.
Hunt is a slasher and while Chubb cannot be replaced with his talent and skill obviously, this signing will help the team in the best way possible. Hunt will have to learn the playbook and fast before the next matchup against the Tennessee Titans at home.
We here at Nordonia Hills News wish Nick Chubb the best in his recovery and hope he is able to make it completely back to the way he was as the amazing running back here in Cleveland. Thank you for all the memories and we hope for more in the future.
Welcome back to Cleveland, Kareem Hunt!
