On December 26, 2024, deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office were deployed to provide heightened security at Summit Mall. The day took a chaotic turn when multiple altercations involving juveniles erupted both inside the mall and in the parking lot.
Deputies worked swiftly to restore order, ultimately arresting 20 juvenile suspects. During the incidents, several deputies were assaulted, with one requiring medical treatment by the Fairlawn Fire Department before being released.
The arrests included charges of Trespassing, Obstruction of Justice, Disorderly Conduct, and Felony Assault on a Peace Officer. Officers from the Bath, Fairlawn, and Copley Police Departments were called in to assist the Sheriff’s Office. The escalating disturbances prompted the early closure of the mall at approximately 5:30 p.m.
