City of Macedonia Mayor Has Information For Residents and How To Help Safety Forces

By Julie D’Aloiso

City of Macedonia Mayor Nick Molnar addressed the residents using Facebook Live yesterday. If you have Facebook you can watch the video below. If not, here are some key points on what he said:

  1. As you know Ohio Governor Mike DeWine extended the Stay at Home order to May 1st. For more information you can go to the Ohio.gov website by going to: https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/home
  2. He is getting many called about essential businesses and who should be open. If you have a question about who should be open or to report a business, you should go to: https://www.scph.org/
  3. There are new signs going up at both of the entrances to city hall. This project was planned and paid for last year. It was started before the coronavirus outbreak and will be finished soon.
  4. He has heard a lot of talk in the community about people about who has the coronavirus. The city does not know and does not want to know. He would like to remind people to be careful about what you say about this and to consider the families that are going through this.
  5. As you know, the Macedonia Recreation Center is now closed and the employees have been laid off. Currently the city is projecting a $3.5 million loss. The mayor and his finance director is looking for more ways to cut their budget to make up for this shortfall, but it won’t be easy. He wants to emphasize now that the #1 priority is to keep the safety forces whole. The safety forces are made up of: Police, Fire, and Service departments. These departments will not be cut!
  6. The city has two parks Longwood and Sugarbush. The mayor wanted to encourage people to use the parks, walk in the trails and such, but do not to throw trash on the trails and to not use the playgrounds.
  7. There was been some recent flooding incidents. The sanitary sewers are maintained by the county. If you have sewage problems the City of Macedonia can assist you in getting your issue resolved with the county. If you have storm water issues, the city will handle those type of issues themselves.
  8. This past Monday, Republic Services put out information indicating that they will not pick up bulk items. See info here: https://www.macedonia.oh.us/republic-services-update/ This means that anything that does not fit in your trash bin, should not be put out on garbage day. What you need to do instead is take your extra garbage and utilize the two trash bins at 9683 Valley View road, the old Fire Station at City Hall. One is for bulk garbage and the other is for yard waste. This is only to be used by Macedonia residents.
  9. The city will utilize their website (https://www.macedonia.oh.us/) and their Facebook page to communicate to residents and Nixle (in case of an emergency or other important information). To sign up to for Nixle notifications text 44056 to the number 888777 or go here: https://www.nixle.com/ to sign up.
  10. The mayor thanked the city employees, Macedonia city council, Macedonia residents and especially the safety forces. In fact the mayor is putting up $200 of his own money to donate for a meal for the safety forces. He is asking people to match that amount or any amount or even just a letter or note of thanks.

If you would like to donate money here are the details:

Send money via PayPal to jbrandt@macedonia.oh.us

Or use PayPal.me link https://www.paypal.me/jessicabrandt1979

Or Venmo is @Jessica-Brandt-28 (last 4 digits of phone is 6403, it asks sometimes)

They will purchase the meal(s) from local restaurants to support them in this difficult time.
