Contractor Scams Macedonia Resident

By Julie D’Aloiso

A Macedonia resident contacted the Macedonia Police Department after she paid a local contractor to purchase supplies and the supplies were never ordered.

The resident had hired the private contractor to do some home renovations in her house. The contractor had been doing work for the past couple of months and she was not very happy with the results. She paid him $2,900 to install kitchen cabinets, but she said they were poorly installed. She then paid him to order kitchen flooring ($5000) and a beam ($500) for the ceiling. The contractor signed an agreement saying he would purchase the flooring and the beam.

And then nothing happened.

The resident showed (to a Macedonia police officer) many text message back and forth to the contractor. These messages show many excuses: he was trying to get a discount, his truck was breaking down, he had a back injury, etc.

The police have spoken to the contractor’s family after attempts to contact the contractor failed. The contractor needs to present the receipts for the materials or pay back the money he was paid. If he does not comply, he will be charged with felony theft.
