COUNTY COUNCIL ADOPTS RESOULUTION OPPOSING DOMINION ENERGY OHIO’S PROPOSED 30 PERCENT RATE INCREASE

Summit County Council adopted a resolution Monday, May 13, 2024, opposing Dominion Energy Ohio’s proposed 30 percent rate increase and requesting that the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio deny Dominion Energy Ohio’s request for the increase. The resolution was initially sponsored and introduced by Council President Rita Darrow (District 1) and later unanimously supported by Council as a Whole.

Several Summit County residents currently receive natural gas service through Dominion Energy Ohio and Dominion has filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, in Case No. 23-0894-GA-AIR, a request for a 30 percent increase for natural gas distribution.

The proposed increase would increase consumers monthly fixed Basic Service Charge for natural gas distribution service from $43.27 to $56.31.  Dominion Energy Ohio has proposed to increase other fixed monthly distribution charges to consumers by more than $8.78 per month starting in 2025, increasing as much as $29.69 per month by 2032.

“These proposed increases in natural gas distribution service may negatively impact the County’s efforts to attract new business and jobs, depress the housing market, and place an undue financial burden on our residents,” said Darrow.
