SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO—County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Summit County Animal Control are joining with individuals and organizations across the country to honor the late actress Betty White. In lieu of the traditional #BettyWhiteChallenge, which asks fans to donate to local animal shelters, Summit County Animal Control is reducing adoption costs in memory of Betty’s kindness and devotion to animals. Following what would have been the Golden Girls star’s 100th birthday on January 17, residents can adopt dogs for $28 and cats for $10 until January 31.
Through her philanthropy, Betty White became more than a television star. She was a champion for zoos, animal shelters, and animal rights organizations that advocate for the protection of endangered species, and compassion for dogs and cats looking for new homes. Over her long life, she paid a heartwarming visit to a giraffe at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and lovingly adopted over two dozen dogs.
To find your own furry friend, call Summit County Animal Control at 330-643-2845 starting Tuesday, January 18 to schedule adoption appointments. The animals are fully vetted, which includes blood work, flea treatments, intestinal deworming, spay or neutering, and vaccinations. A 2022 Summit County Dog license is also included in the price, reduced to $28 for dogs (regularly $94) and $10 for cats (regularly $60). Join the #BettyWhiteChallenge today and support your local dogs and cats!
